“The smallest of all seeds,
becomes the largest of garden plants:
it grows into a tree,
and birds come and make nests in its branches.”
The Net is full of open-source code, and it seems that nobody cares about its preservation. If some old programs were to be preserved for the future, what would you choose? My legal choices are as follows:
- The APL source code and the first version of the C compiler.
- The Unix Tree: various old versions of Unix.
- The MacPaint, QuickDraw and Photoshop source code.
- The id Software source code repository for their old games.
- The Apollo and Gemini program listings.
Yes! I would love it if I could find some old code from Dijkstra or Wirth, for example.
